The Algonquin Garden Club has planted a pollinator garden at the new Blue Star Memorial highway marker site.
A rededication ceremony was held on June 7, 2024 at 10am at the southwest corner of Route 31 and Huntington Dr./Main St in Algonquin IL.
At the rededication, American Legion Post 1231 presented the flag and pledge of allegiance. An invocation prayer was given by Pastor Jeremy Latzke of St. Johns’ Lutheran Church and the Star Spangled Banner was sung by Monica Brubaker. The History of the Blue Star Program was given by Algonquin Garden Club president Sharon Lake. Debby Sosine, Village of Algonquin President, accepted the Blue Star Marker.
During the construction of the roundabout at the north side of Main Street, the Blue Star Memorial was removed and now has been relocated to the new site. The original dedication was on May 28, 2001.
